ABOUT THE SHOW

Michael Menes (pronounced “men•ness” like “finesse“) is a visual comedian and expert juggler. Michael has worked for 14 different cruise lines starting his career in 1993. He is currently represented by Jan Stenning at TAD Management. Michael’s show is not your typical comedy juggling show but a combination of polished visual comedy acts, energetic and challenging juggling numbers, and original novelty vignettes that incorporate gesture, character, and pantomime. For a sampling of his show, please watch the highlights clip below. PLEASE NOTE: Michael can do a completely visual version of his material for international guests, or a version which has English humor segues from scene to scene (but is also appreciated by guests who have a limited understanding of English.)

REHEARSAL & TECH NOTES

• Sets: Michael performs a maximum of (1) 50 minute “main show” and (1) 25 minute “split show” for welcomes, split, or farewells. About 75 minutes total.

• Band: No band rehearsal required. All material is performed to audio cd tracks.

• Rehearsals: Technical rehearsal for the main show needs about 90 minutes for lights and sound. There are 7 or 8 scenes (“looks”) with transitions that need programming. The split show rehearsal needs about 60 minutes for lights and sound with 3 or 4 scenes (“looks”). When possible, Michael likes the technical rehearsal early in the day rather than later in the afternoon.

• Tech Needs: A wireless mike on a stand, a chair for audience participation, a UV wash (for one juggling number only), and a stage hand to help simple placement and striking of props. If the theater is equipped with projection and side-screens, a dvd is available to display graphics while people are finding their seats to build anticipation for the performance.

TRAVEL & DOCUMENTATION

PLEASE NOTE: MICHAEL’S EQUIPMENT NEEDS TO ARRIVE IN ORDER TO DO THE SHOW! PLEASE TAKE CARE IN BOOKING THE TRAVEL WITH ENOUGH TIME BETWEEN FLIGHTS FOR THE BAGGAGE TO MAKE THE CONNECTIONS.  THANK YOU!

• Schedule: Please inform Michael if a show is expected on the day he arrives on board.

• Home Airport: Portland, Maine, USA (PWM) or Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Boston often makes more sense if traveling abroad because flights depart directly to Europe and return to Boston. Concord Trailways offers bus service directly to and from the terminals from Portland, Maine for $45 round trip which takes 2 hours (less time than connecting flights at other gateways).

• Current Travel Documents: US Passport, 10 Year Tourist Visas for Brazil & China, Seaman’s Book (Bahamas)

• Baggage: 3 checked bags (2 are road cases) + 1 carry on. (transfers by small van preferred to a taxi.)

• Current Immunizations: Yellow Fever (December, 2009)

ADDITIONAL PROGRAMS

1.  Juggling Workshops

2.  The Mastery of Difficult Things Lecture.  A Demonstration/Informal Show sharing the how-to’s of becoming a professional physical comedian, uber-juggler, and touring artist including humorous stories, demonstrations, Q/A, slide show and more.  Many of the techniques that are applicable to the training of juggling and stage skills are also universally useful in applying to many other endeavors.  This is a good lecture-demo to help fill days at sea.  i.e. Grace Under Pressure.
